Cambray Community United Church History
The Bible Christian Church opened in the village of Cambray in August of 1871 for all denominations. In 1885, it became the Methodist Church and in 1925, it became the United Church. On June 1st 1937, the church was destroyed by fire. During the building of the new church, worship was held at the Community Hall. On November 21st 1937, opening services were held and to commemorate the opening, a fowl supper was held with about 700 attending. Cambray Community United Church was formed in January 2010, when Cambray, Cameron, Eden and Zion United Churches amalgamated with each other to form on Unit Church congregation. The church is located in Cambray, a small rural village within the village within the city of Kawartha Lakes. Members are mainly rural residents from the surrounding farming communities and former church congregations who live in and around the villages of Cambray, Cameron, Fenelon Falls, Kirkfield, Woodville and Lindsay.
